Week 69: drinkin w/ the Preacher
Hoi!! Hope ya'll had a fantastic week! As for me over here I'm dying of baby fever and allergies but other than that thriving.
At one of our member appointments this week my poor comp was just struggling to get her food down. We were at an African lady's house and she makes us this thing called modolo every time and my goodness it's probably the nastiest thing ever. But she loves when we eat it because it's from her home. My comp already was just not having the best day so I distracted Madeleine and shoved my comps modolo into my mouth. It seemed like the thing to do until I did it and about barfed. Worth it? Honestly probably not... but we walked out and my comp turned to me and said "that was the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me" tender moment haha.
We were going to visit one of our favorite families in the ward and on the way to their house we had some extra time so we decided to knock on some doors. We picked the prettiest old house and no one answered but we could hear voices from around the back so we poked our heads into the back yard and this older couple was like, "Hey, you want to come sit with us?" Do we?! We sat down and the man saw our tags and was like, "ohhhh now we have a problem." Not a great thing to hear... the woman told us that she is the Preacher of the church in town. We were able to show them that we are just normal gals who also love Jesus Christ and that we are on the same team. Within a few minutes, we were all laughing and sharing life stories. The woman asked us if we wanted a drink and we gladly accepted and then politely declined when she said, "go get the good alcohol." (I am flattered she was gonna give us the good stuff) She came back out with a fancy bottle and poured us a cup of pink liquid. Sister Kerksiek and I took a sip and then looked at each other. The drink tasted a little off so we asked if it had alcohol in it. She reassured us it didn't, so we finished off our glass and then got poured another one. I was like dang if this actually has alcohol in it we are in trouble... When we got up to leave the couple invited us to come visit them again, so cool! We went from being a problem to being friends! Win! And hey we didn't get tipsy so that's another win.
Our ward hosted a market for Ukrainian refugees this week and there were SO many donations. We got to help sort everything and the next day we got to help with it! There were so many families and it broke my heart but also felt really cool to be able to try and help them the best we could. So many people came up to us and would just start going off in Ukrainian and my comp would shoot me the look she does when she doesn't know what's being said but I didn't have a clue either so we would just kinda wait till they realized we didn't know was going on. Even though we couldn't say much, there was such a special spirit there and I'm grateful we got to love these people.
I read this and loved it so here it is, "The Savior loves to restore what you cannot restore; He loves to heal wounds you cannot heal; He loves to fix what has been irreparably broken; He compensates for any unfairness inflicted on you, and He loves to permanently mend even shattered hearts." I got to see shattered hearts this week and it gives me comfort that someone can mend them. That someone can mend you and the ones you care about. I have faith that he fixes what is broken. Some things just take a little more time but I know there is nothing too broken for Jesus to fix. So I keep waiting and praying and invite you to join me and never lose faith in what Jesus can do.
