Week 30: Alpine Spanish-speaking mission?

Johanna and the palace
Hallo Meine Lieben! I hope y'all had such a good week! Mine was super busy which is always good!! Throughout the week I always think about what I wanna tell you all and a lot of times I just can't put it into words. So sorry if I don't make a lot of sense sometimes… I confuse myself a lot too, so there's that.

After the flashing
On the street this week we had a fun little encounter. We were with 8 other missionaries and we walked past this lady and as we passed she said, "I believe in God, I believe in you" and was like pointing at us but then just kept walking. We were all caught off guard because that never happens and we just kept walking and then me and my comp were like what the and like took in what had happened and decided to chase her down and talk with her. An experience for sure... I think she was a bit crazy because she started going off about how Jesus played a significant role in the nazi movement and all this stuff and I was sooo confused.. then mid-sentence a bird pooped on her arm and she like looked at it and said so plainly, "well, a bird just pooped on me but that doesn't mean I'm wrong."… and just carried on talking like it never happened! It was literally all I could do to not just burst out laughing. Looking back at that encounter I am honestly still confused, grateful I didn't get pooped on, and grateful for the knowledge I have about Jesus Christ. We love weird experiences.. oh speaking of weird experiences we also got flashed by a lady this week- that was weird… I think my new comp is a bit scared.. her warm welcome to Vienna.

Anyways! The guy I've talked about in my last two emails is named Nefi! (And side note he came to church on Sunday!!! First time in 6 years! Blessings!!) Anyways his whole family is inactive and we've been trying to find a way to meet with the rest of his family but they only speak Spanish so that's been a bit of a challenge. Last night though we got invited over to his parents and had dinner with his mom! She literally only could speak Spanish and Nefi told her that I took Spanish in school… So whenever she talked she would look at me. Man, I wish I would've paid more attention in Spanish class… All good though because the spirit can speak all languages. We were able to share a spiritual thought and Nefi translated and at the end, his mom bore her testimony to us. Although I had no clue what she said, the spirit was there and I could feel that God loved her. It was seriously such an amazing experience and one that I will never forget.

This week was a bit of a struggle for me but I ran into this scripture and it helped me feel a lot better! I know that God is there leading all of us along and that he has so many blessings waiting for us. His plan is always greater than ours and I am grateful for that even though it's hard to understand and see at times. I'm grateful for the scriptures and for the guidance and peace, they bring me! Turn to them. You will find peace.

I love you guys and always love to hear from you! Hope you have an amazing week! Don't forget to smile and laugh and be happy!
