Week 18: Croatia Baby

I really don't know where to begin honestly… this week has been the craziest.

Let's start out by saying bye to my Mendenhall family. So sad to be leaving them. They seriously are some of the best people I have ever met. God seriously knew exactly what I needed and I feel so grateful to have met the people I did and become so close with them. Mendenhall will forever have a place in my heart.

Wednesday Sister Jaster dropped me off at the sister missionaries' house and we had to say goodbye which was the worst. I love her so much. The German sisters and I all stayed there that night and didn't sleep hardly at all due to excitement and an uncomfortable couch and the next day around 1 got taken to the airport. And this is where the real adventure began. I'll try to keep it short but oh man it was rough. So we get there and get our bags checked and one of the Sisters' Sister Gutke got held up and got told she needed a negative covid test so we hurried and called the sisters that dropped us off and asked them to come back. Sister Gutke got picked up and they hurried to a clinic. In the meantime, we're all panicking thinking she was gonna miss the flight and she had left her luggage with us so we couldn't just leave it. Long story short she made it back and we got through security and made it to our gate right before we were supposed to board. So stressful but then they told us our flight got delayed for about an hour so we hustled for nothing, haha but it was fine because we were just glad to make it. But then our flight got delayed another hour…. And then they announced that the flight was canceled altogether… rough. We called mission travel and they told us we needed to book another flight. They didn't have any other flights flying into Houston in time to make our flight to Germany so we had to rebook for the next day. It was a bit of a struggle. We ended up being at the airport till about 7 and then got picked up by the APs and taken to president's house. Kinda crazy and rough that we spent 6 hours stressing in the airport just to get picked back up. All good though.  we got about 3 hours of sleep that night because we had to go get another covid test for Sister Gutke because it had to be within 48 hours of when we arrived in Croatia and the timing didn't add up so we were at the clinic till about 1am getting that and then had to get up at 5am to get to the airport. We got there and got all checked in and the elders we were traveling with went to check-in and apparently their flights got booked wrong and oh man it was just another thing. We got that all figured out and got to our gate and flew to Houston where we had a 10-hour layover… yes a 10 hour. We played a lot of cards and basically all know each other's whole life story now. We then got on our 10-hour flight to Germany and sleeping is difficult on a flight for sure. We got to the German Airport and it was huge and so much German! Sooo cool. Anyways we made it to Croatia and I don't think I have ever fallen asleep so fast. Those 3 days of traveling all combined and felt like the longest day of my life. I'm just glad we're here now!

Croatia is beautiful! We are staying in a super nice hotel with about 60 other missionaries and basically can do whatever we want. We have 3 hours of German class every day

volim te i nedostaješ mi (that's love and miss you in Croatian haha)
