Week 6 and 7: Small Town Mississippi

 Hey ya'll!

I really don't even know where to begin. So much has happened! Saying bye to my family was rough. They are seriously the best and I miss them already. Super grateful that I get to go to work tho! Lowkey has been the longest week ever but has also been sooo good!

We got to Baton Rouge midday Tuesday and my adventure began. A lot of stuff has happened this week and I have so much to say but I'll just bullet point a few things and tell a few stories…

  • It is so humid, I can barely breathe

  • President Amos is so awesome

  • Sister Amos makes the best cinnamon rolls I have ever had

  • My companion is named Sister Jaster and she is seriously sooo amazing

  • They call bathroom breaks, bayou breaks

  • We had to shelter inside because there was a tornado warning

  • The house we live in is full of cockroaches (grosssss)

  • I thought I just had to learn german but I definitely need the gift of tongues here too. I can barely understand anyone.

  • Celestial parking is where its at (I do not like backing)

  • Little kids + southern accents= cutest thing ever.

Mendenhall Mississippi is something else… probably one of the sketchier places I've ever been. But don't worry mom we pray like every 10 minutes. No joke. We pray when we leave the house, before and after personal study, before and after comp study, before we get out of the car, and then the normal prayers like morning and evening and on the food. So basically all of the prayers but i love it!! And have already felt closer to my savior.

My 2nd day here we had a lesson with two members and a guy named Mike. We pulled up to what it looked like an old abandoned trailer house and I asked my comp what we were doing. She kinda laughed and said going to our lesson. The member lived there! It was very humbling to meet this guy and to hear him talk about how blessed he was. He made it sound like he was the luckiest guy ever to be blessed with what he has. I honestly could barely understand what he was saying because his accent was so thick (here in the south they call it cajun). We talked about the priesthood and the blessings it brings. The 2 members bore their testimonies on the priesthood and Mike said that he wanted the priesthood! He is unsure about baptism because he has already been baptized in the baptist church and doesn't want to betray his friends there. I really do think he's close though and I'm excited to keep teaching him the importance of proper authority. Our lesson went really well and the spirit was definitely there. This experience was so humbling to me because these 3 men are all very unique and something I have never experienced before but the gospel brought us all together. People can truly be one in Christ.

I'm grateful for all the prayers I have really felt them this week. Be grateful for what you have. We are all so blessed!

Love and miss you!
